Old Testament Bible Study
Brenda Said:
What is your preference? Old testament or new?We Answered:
When reading my Bible I study both but prefer The New Testament. There is so much violence in The Old Testament and I live my life by The New Testament. When studying you have to have both or at least that is the way I feel. When someone ask me the best place to start reading in the Bible I always say The New Testament and to read Mark first, when finished then start reading The Old Testament. My favorite book in the Bible is JOB.Very good question Ozzie, thanks for asking.Have a great day.God Bless.Rene Said:
Bible question, Old testament, book that says....?We Answered:
wrong version...NIV uses no "ye" in the text.
Try the following verses from the King James...
be aware that punctuation, which the original Hebrew lacks, can alter a meaning.
The Old Testament speaks of many different "gods."
There is only one God that uses a capital "G"

Christianity: Would It Go Against Christ To Study The Tanakh Instead Of The Bible Old Testament? We Answered:
The Tanach is the Old Testament. If you are reading the Tanach in English you are reading the version taken directly from the original Hebrew. The only difference is that the Old Testament that is included in what we would call the Christian bible was translated from Hebrew to Greek, then to other languages.
I read the Tanach and love it and find in fact the JPS Tanach is pretty much identical to the New American Standard version of the Old Testament.
Remember Jesus studied the Hebrew scriptures (the Torah and the Tanach), and what we call the Old Testament.
Yes it is true that in most translations of the Tanach you will get to see the original Name of God used in each situation. I think that is great.
I love the fact that God revealed himself to Moses as Eyeh-Asher-Eyeh, in the English Old Testament we loose the Name and we get a loose meaning of the Name that let's us believe the Name of God is "I Am that I Am", when in fact it is not.
Just a note: Eyeh-Asher-Eyeh means "I exist without the aide of another" or "Sefl existant"
A few side notes:
I also prefer the Hebrew Name that Jesus was named "Yehowshua" (means God is Salvation) rather than the name Jesus which is a transliteration, meaning there is no translation and basically it had to be made up.
Knowing God's real Name/Names and Jesus' real Name is to me a step ahead of the crowd.
There is a difference in the meaning of "Yehowshua" as opposed to "Yeshua" or "Jesus"
Yehowshua means God IS salvation where the other two mean God WILL save. Notice Yehowshua is in the present tense where the other two are in the future tense.
There is no conflict what so ever in reading the Tanach. Many Christians read it who are not Messianic Jews. Many Chrisitan ministers in fact study it in seminary.
Good for you for reading.

What does God mean we he allows things to happen in the old and new testament of the holy bible(see judges)? We Answered:
(1) The directive will of God. There are some things in which God is the author; He actively brings about the events. He creates (Isa. 45:18); He controls the universe (Dan. 4:35); He establishes kings and governments (Dan. 2:21); He elects people to be saved (Eph. 1:4).(2) The permissive will of God. Even though God has determined all things, He may actively bring them about Himself, or He may bring them about through secondary causes. Sinful acts, for example, do not frustrate the plan of God, but neither is God the author of them. They are within the scope of God’s decree and are part of His eternal plan and purpose, but man is nonetheless responsible for sinful acts. Hence, “a distinction must be made between the decree and its execution.” All acts—including sinful acts—conform to the eternal plan of God, but He is not directly the author of all acts. For example, when the people of Israel demanded a king to rule over them, they sinned against the Lord (1 Sam. 8:5-9, 19-22). But the Lord had foreordained that kings would come from Abraham’s lineage (Gen. 17:6; 35:11), culminating in Messiah. The people sinned, but God’s plan was being executed.

Looking for someone in the Bible to study? We Answered:
Why don't you try Gideon. He meets some of your requirements.Judges 6:11 Now the Angel of the LORD came and sat under the terebinth tree which was in Ophrah, which belonged to Joash the Abiezrite, while his son Gideon threshed wheat in the winepress, in order to hide it from the Midianites.
12 And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him, "The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!"
13 Gideon said to Him, "O my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? And where are all His miracles which our fathers told us about, saying, 'Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt?' But now the LORD has forsaken us and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites."

How do I Study the Bible? We Answered:
One kind of study I find myself doing alot is a word study. When I'm faced with a certain problem, I take the word involved and go to Biblegateway.com and dig up all the Scriptures on that subject. I also end up looking it up in the dictionary and even the encyclopedia if applicable. I have found my understanding of different things completely changing on many occasions. When God leads you to face fear, anger, doubt, etc., you can study up on what God has to say about it and it can help you learn how to pray and overcome it.
Benjamin Said:
why should we study the old testament of the bible? We Answered:
