I would think some component of the animal care home course would involve working hands on at a vet's office to get experience, but that is just a thought.

it's always hard when thinking about correspondance courses to know if they are nationally recognised.

Have a look at the site below, a database of all nationally recognised qualifications [UK] so should give you some help. If you type in animal managemenr it will list all courses available matching or similar.

OCN is a recognised exam board, certainly they offer a wide variety of courses that may suit your needs.

I don't know what state you live in, but in California, there are law firms that specialize in adoptions. In our case, the adoption was private (a distant family member) and uncontested. I also happened to a neighbor of one of a principal of such a law firm. They charged a flat $1,500 fee for their services.

The CA state filing for adoption was about $3k. That covers just about everything, including the home study. Other expenses include background and criminal checks and fingerprinting.

I'd recommend getting a law firm first and they may be able to direct you to a good agency.

The answer above mine is not well-thought out. A home study will have a lot of weight. A judge will definitely consider all of the facts surrounding your granddaughter's upbringing. He will look to see if her needs can be met in her dad's home, and if it is a safe environment for her. If it didn't matter much, then they wouldn't waste the money doing the studies.

As far as what a 7 year old child wants, although the judge may consider it, nobody is stupid enough to consider a child's desire over the safety and stability in a home. What 7-year old doesn't want to be with a more lenient, less rule-driven, "cooler" home? Unless she's saying there's some sort of abuse, her wishes won't come into play much.
