you could show how the quality of fresh water effects the life of a fish.

use feeder goldfish (they're like 10 cents a piece)
use a control with fresh spring water (the kind you buy in jugs at the store)
then collect water from several different ponds and lakes around you and see how well the fish thrive in those waters versus the control. you can test the quality of water with a test kit and see what minerals, pollutants, etc are in the water of each group

I have two ideas for you; A do a diet study -feed one all vegtable diet and the other an all grain diet and see what happens to their health in a short time.
The other is give them two different enviroments to live with- give one a tank of natural products to make a nest likecedar chips, grass, paper tubes. etc. Give the other just rocks, metals, rubber - things one would find in a junk yard and how different their homes look and how they adapt to it.

You could do a search for how many different species of animal live around your neighbourhood and identify and count them. You should be able to find lots of types of insect and birds plus some reptiles and mammals. This would be fun as your could spend time outside taking your recordings then make graphs comparing the quantities of the different types of animal you found. Take photots of the creatures as you find them if you have a camera. You could also make an insect collection if you prefer. Hope this helps.
