Well it depends oh where he goes to school which depends on his job. ok I'll tell you the rules for that situation. If his school is more than 20 weeks than the military will pay for his whole family to live down there in temporary housing. If his school is under that time than no. if he is going to Sheppard AFB for Tech-school that's out of the pictures. Keesler AFB has that option depending on the Job. But no. He will not be able to go home before Tech-School. But at the End of Basic he will get 2-3 days to Prade around San Antonio TX with who ever came to see him Graduate. If you Can i Suggest you try your best to make it. It will more to him than you know. You can find out how long his schooling is by searching for it through google. there are numerous sites that will give you that information. Also If you know his Job Title, Job Code (AFSC) and you edit it in this question I should be able to help you there. The Air Force is a very Family oriented branch...After Tech school. Trust me getting through Tech school is the difficult part on a family. As far as basic training goes just write him, send him pictures of the fam, and whatever else to keep him motivated =) It's not that bad...once you look back on it. But the more support he has the better. He is making a Great Choice for joining the military and for having a family the Air Force works best with free cousiling if needed, Things for the kids, and you (the wife) to do while he's deployed so you don't lose your mind or break down. Also the Deployments are shorter than any other branch so that also helps and they have a higher standard of living. So other Branches don't like the AF for that at times. But I can't speak for any other branch because i'm in the Air Force. Also in tech school. He can't live off base with ya'll if he doesn't keep above an 80-85% average (depends on the Job and the Base) Just make sure he studies =P Any other questions? depends on the school.. My DH, for instance could NOT wear his ring because he worked on electrical equipment all the time and it was a safety hazard.

Best would be tech school connected to a real apprenticeship.

1. He should be able to call a couple of people on Christmas. But, there's limits on the number of phones, so everyone wants one and they all have to share.

2. I went to AF Basic when it was only 6.5 weeks long, so I only know our days started around 0500 and ended around 2300. Honestly I don't remember that much about. Sundays you could go to church and otherwise you were in the dorms studying or doing laundry.

3. Yes, they are given liberty...if they don't get into trouble. As for the phone calls, that's wrong. They can make calls.

4. At Tech School they go through a phase program. For the first 2 weeks they are pretty much treated as if they are in Basic, but then they get more privileges. But, after about 1700 or 1800 in the evening then the rest of the night is theirs. So he would be able to call a lot more in tech school.

the only thing we brought was his cell phone, he got the laptop once he got to Tech school as for all the other stuff he asked us to bring he really did not have any space for it as he already had enough to carry. You have to get the suit carrier etc and carry that with you, so try to keep it to a base line of what you can carry and nothing more, you can build up your stock of "stuff" once you get to tech school and after that point the military will be packing your stuff and moving it for you.

We did send a few things in boxes to his tech school but that will down to you and what you want them to send.......its amazing how unimportant the stuff back home becomes once you start your new life in the USAF.......... before you leave I would help your mum sort out your room and pack up the stuff that you might want her to send on [so it is in one central place] and ditch stuff that you know you will not ever need / want again and also maybe pack up all the other stuff that you do not want or need but WILL want / need down the road.............We have a slew of boxes that we are storing for my son from his travels around the world and these are things that he wants to keep safe for when he finally buys his own home and settles down......for instance he has tried to buy one small peice of art hand done from each place, he sends it home and I have had each one framed in the same type of frames and the same colour so that it will match any sort of decor he has when he gets his own place........... that way I get to be a part of his journey.
