High School Boarding Schools

Amanda Said:

What are some fun boarding schools ( high school ) NOT MILITARY!?

We Answered:

Well, before I go into more info, be sure this is something that you are not doing on a whim. Boarding school is serious. The kids there are very intelligent and normally are there to learn. It's not something they do randomly. Boarding school isn't like Zoey 101, or even A Seperate Peace (regardless of how much I adore that book). Actually, to much people's surprise, military schools aren't as common as straight out boarding schools, so that isn't sometihng you should worry about.

But that leads me into my second point. Before you commit to anything, don't just come here for info. People here don't know much about the process of boarding school. Research a lot. This is a huge commitment and it takes a whole load of effort.

As a pre-warning, the students at these school are, on average, the most driven students that you will ever meet. They want to learn, and want to be better academically, musically, artistically, athletically, whatever. They are yearning for more.

This ends up bringing me to actually addressing your question. My biggest advice is to go to Boarding School Review and use their search page. I'll include the link in the sources page. This site will help you figure out which schools are your best fit, and which schools offer what you want. Applying to these schools is much like applying to college. Ask a high school senior to see what I mean.

Good luck.

High school boarding schools?

We Answered:

Check out The Association of Boarding Schools, and BoardingPOV for some ideas.

Normal schools do exist - and yes, Zoey 101 is just a TV show. Most boarding schools are challenging, competitive. ex-President Bush went to Andover, near Boston, and ex-President John F. Kennedy went to Choate. Might be a good starting point for checking out their websites to see what they're all about.

What are the most elite high school boarding schools?

Lawrence Said:

Are there any grants or scholarships available for high school boarding schools for low income families?

We Answered:

All the US boarding schools of which I am aware offer financial aid. This is lower tuition based on what a program estimates your family can afford. This program is based on income and assets, and all the boarding schools use the same program. If you are in the US, take a look at the financial aid section of the schools that interest you.

If a boarding school really wants you to attend, they might offer you more than what the program estimates your family can contribute. In some cases, they offer you less. In all cases, your family will still need to make financial sacrifices. Here are some FAQ's about financial aid http://www.westminster-school.org/podium… .

Good luck!
