is there any good SAT prep book that can help me with math?

We Answered:

I used a book that I got in my Princeton Review class. It had 11 practice SAT tests in it plus all of the answers (and their explanations). I took most of the math sections in these tests, and all the practice really helped -- it upped my Math score 180 points. The teacher for my Princeton Review class helped a little too: she gave tips (like you don't ever really need to use trigonometry) and helpful formulas (like the distance and midpoint formulas). But mainly it was the practice tests, so that's what I suggest -- practice a lot, study what you got wrong until you know how to do it right, and you should improve your score a lot.

There are some tricks too, like if the problem has variables in it. Plug in a number for the variable and solve the problem. Then look at the answers, plug in the variable for them, and see which answer matches up with the problem. This really helped me cut down on time when I was taking the SATs.

For problems that have variables in the problem, but not in the solution -- plug in answer C from the solution. If it doesn't work, then you will be able to eliminate either A and B (which are smaller than answer C) or D and E (which are larger than answer C).

There was another book from the Princeton Review (I think it was Cracking the SAT) that told you helpful tips like this, and also had charts in the beginning. These charts showed you how many problems you had to answer right in order to get the grade you wanted. This also helped me, especially the charts. I knew I had to answer around 46 Math problems right in total to get the score I was shooting for, so I would take the practice tests in my other book and add up my score to see how I was doing. But I think the practice tests were what REALLY upped my score, in my opinion. When I went in to take the SATs, I knew exactly what was coming and was prepared for most of it.

Hope that helped a little! Good luck in October! As long as you work hard (review slope, other geometry and algebra concepts) and study, your grade will have to go up. (and also, there's an 'experimental' section on the SAT that can be a math section. This doesn't count towards your grade, it's only there for research purposes. I knew there was one when I took the SATs because there were four math sections when there should have only been three -- there were two fill-in-the-blank sections instead of one, and two normal sections. And one section was really hard! So if you get four math sections and one is more difficult...then that could be the experimental section, so don't worry about it)

SAT chem or SAT math prep?

We Answered:

supposedly a person who is taking Pre-calculus can handle all of the questions in Math IIC, although I took it while in Calculus, which is a definite advantage. As for chemistry, I took it with AP Chemistry. Both tests are more factual based than intellectually based, as the SAT 1 is supposedly, so the main thing to do is memorize everything conceptual and factual. More importantly, I doubt that a class in regular Chemistry will be enough for the test, so you will have a lot of studying ahead of you. And never think that anything on a prep book isn't worth memorizing, unless it says so. I also think that a class would help, in the sense that it is guaranteed to do so providing you do not goof around, but will not increase it magically, as some companies claim to do. (maybe 50-100 points)

Which is the best SAT math prep book?

We Answered:

Well, for practice tests for your students, check out books directly from Collegeboard. Collegeboard published a practice test book with 2 real SAT II Level 1 tests and 2 real SAT II Level 2 tests. These tests provide a VERY accurate estimation of the actual test. Barron's is far too difficult with formulas that would never be tested. Of course, understanding the entire Barron's book would increase knowledge of mathematics significantly, but it's not necessary for the SAT II. Other than that, Princeton's Review is a good source. I don't really like the Kaplan's book because its somewhat easier than the real thing.

good sat math prep ? I REALLY NEED IT?

We Answered:

know your algebra real well including algebra 2. geometry is not as important if you know the basic rules for the shapes. if you want to study well than just get an ACT prep book and do the math questions in it. since the ACT is less English focused than the SAT you will get more mathematics practice. that and just asking someone you know that is good at math to give you help should boost your m,arks. remember do as many types of questions as you can and do them over and over again until it becomes a reflex. that should help with the time factor.

What is a good Sat Math Prep book?

We Answered:

The math section of the SAT is often the section most students struggle with. I know I did! Teaching yourself to be more efficient and to understand and recognize specific types of questions and how to attack them will help you succeed on the math portion of the SAT. The book I would recommend is The PowerScore SAT Math Bible. It covers every question type tested on the math section of the SAT and provides you with the most efficient method for solving the problems. There are over loads of practice questions with complete explanations. You can find the book at http://shopping.powerscore.com/product_d… . Good luck with your studies!
