GMAT: I am NOT good at math?

We Answered:

Try to just leave out the words and focus on the numbers mentioned in the test and what the question is telling you what to do with the numbers.

Franklin Said:

Can I prepare GRE math section with GMAT sample problems?

We Answered:

I don't think its a good idea. It is best to use GRE sample problems since they usually come from previous tests.

Leon Said:

Studying GMAT math (What kind of problem is this?)?

We Answered:

Divide the equation through by the smallest coefficient, 0.04, to get
x = 125y = 50z

Since you have to multiply y by 125 to get x and z by 50 to get x,
then y is the smallest, then z is 2nd smallest, and x is the biggest.

So y < z < x and the answer is (D).

Holly Said:

GMAT Math questions. I need up understanding these 5 problems?

We Answered:

1) 20% alcohol in 100 liter= 20 liters of alcohol(wow a lot!)
add x liters to 100 liters and 20 liters so that 20+x=25% of 100+x
in other words 4(20+x)=100+x
solve:
80+4x=100+x
3x=20
x=20/3 liters

2) 10 yards north and 2 yards south simplifies to 10-2= 8 yds north
6 yards east can stay.
Call the point 8 yds north of point O, "B".
P would be 6 yards east of B.
East and North are perpendicular so triangle 0BP is a right triangle with angle B as a right angle.
legs OB and BP are 8 and 6, you want OP which is the hypotenuse.
Use Pythagorean theorem(or know that 8, 6,10 is a pythagorean triple) :
sqrt(8^2+6^2)=10
OP=10yds

3)5,10,15,20,25,30,35,40,45,50
Easy, use a calculator to add them up and divide by ten to get m=27.5
Median is middle number, but in this case there are two:
25 and 30. Take the value exactly in between them, 27.5.
Well what do you know! The difference is zero(27.5 is mean and median)!

4) get x=3+y from the first equation(add y to both sides)
substitute 3+y in for x in second equation.
6+2y=6+2y. Any value for y would solve the equation, so there are infinite solutions.

5)A drove 40 mph for 100 mi. That took A 100/40=2.5 hours.
B drove 50 mph for 100 mi. Taking 2 hours.
C drove 60 mph for 100 mi. taking 100/60=5/3 hours.
total hours=2.5+2+5/3=37/6 hours(2.5=15/6, 2=12/6, 5/3=10/6, add them)
15/6 out of 37/6=15/37

Whew! I better get a best answer for this!
